{"id":714,"date":"2018-08-03T12:13:38","date_gmt":"2018-08-03T12:13:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/?p=714"},"modified":"2018-08-03T12:33:00","modified_gmt":"2018-08-03T12:33:00","slug":"mead-and-the-medieval-feast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/mead-and-the-medieval-feast\/","title":{"rendered":"Mead and the Medieval Feast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Stanford&#8217;s Home of Mead and the Harvest Kitchen celebrated the revelry of the Middle Ages<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Noble knights and their lovely ladies descended upon Stanford Harvest on Friday, 27 July, for\u00a0the launch of a &#8216;Meadieval&#8217; Feast\u00a0during the Blood Moon eclipse.\u00a0The decor consisted of flags, shields and weapons, and long wooden tables decked with earthenware, goblets and candles. Outside, the fire pits, stocks and banners transformed the restaurant and surrounds into a magical, medieval setting filled with magic and excitement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_716\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-716\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-716 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed-768x460.jpg 768w, https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed-1024x613.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/stanfordinfo.co.za\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Photo-1-processed-816x488.jpg 816w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-716\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Going Medieval at Stanford Harvest<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Young maidens welcomed the noble guests with song and dance on the lawns, whilst wandering minstrels serenaded the handsome crowd. All enjoyed the sunset whilst sipping\u00a0Athol McOnie&#8217;s centuries-old, family recipe for Mead, described as the <em>Drink of Gods<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The staff of Stanford Harvest together with Viv &amp; Athol looked striking in their cloaks, masks, tights and hats. Raucous laughter could be heard as more people arrived, dressed in magnificent costumes, wearing crowns and jesters&#8217; colourful, pointy hats. Athol kept the mead flowing, made from bee hives kept on the farm.<\/p>\n<p>Belly dancer, Alyssa Bellingan, and troubadours, Jerry Fourie and John Gnodde, entertained throughout the evening.
